A Community Meeting

Denizens of the city of Redwood City showed up en masse for an organized rally in front of the San Mateo historical museum about the current state of the United States under the administration of Donald J. Trump.

As I wandered around the crowd, taking in the faces of the old and young protesting silently or actively, I wondered about the supporters of Trump. Leading up the elections in November, I commonly saw a man walking around the area, pittbull on a leash, wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the message “Trump that Bitch”. Where was he this day?

If we take back the mood of the nation, a thing I am 100% invested in, people who are disillusioned and supportive of Trump don’t go away, they simply go silent. So, while the rally gave me such joy to see a community meeting in unison on the topic of openness and fairness, I understand that this is only the first step. As has been expressed many times, we need to win the hearts and minds of the people, this time not the Iraqi people but our own.
