Sixteen and in the Jungle

I met this girl while walking around her village in the Amazon jungle of Peru. I was there with Selva In Action, a medical outreach organization. She was tending to her family’s store while her parents attended an informational talk about the benefits of collective medical action being put on at the community center nearby. Through my translator, I interviewed her about her life growing up a several hour boat ride away from the nearest city.
