Altar I

Only 1 left in stock / Shipping Available

Dia de los Muertos processions are popular and beautiful events throughout my home state of California. This one in San Francisco, held in the Mission District, has been a regular community event for over 30 years. At the end of the procession is an open space where the community displays their altars to loved ones.

Monsignore Fish

While boating tranquilly on one of the lakes in Golden Gate Park, this chubby fish rose to the surface as if out of a Chinese watercolor to greet me to his peaceful home. We stared at each other for a few minutes, his mouth moving but no words were heard, before he dipped back into the water and swam away.

Rising Water

This image was taken at one of the many docks in Iquitos where boats come and go on their way out into the Amazon river basin surrounding this major city in the middle of the Peruvian jungle. During my week in the area, I saw the rising and falling of the water levels, the results of which are calmly adapted to by those who live on or work near the water edge.

A walk along the industrial road of Seaport Boulevard in Redwood City California offers the chance to notice the constantly changing and lunar-like textures of the salt flats. We are at heart so profoundly anarchistic that the only form of state we can imagine living in is Utopian; and so cynical that the only Utopia we can believe in is authoritarian.

Life from birth in the floating shantytown of Belén, consisting of scores of neat rows of huts, built on rafts, which rise and fall with the river, depends on a familiarity with navigating by boat. Seven thousand people live here, and its habitants move around via canoes floating from hut to hut to visit neighbors or sell and trade jungle produce.
