Monsignore Fish

While boating tranquilly on one of the lakes in Golden Gate Park, this chubby fish rose to the surface as if out of a Chinese watercolor to greet me to his peaceful home. We stared at each other for a few minutes, his mouth moving but no words were heard, before he dipped back into the water and swam away.

This image was shot above the Grand Prismatic in Yellowstone National Park. It was late in the day and I loved the movement of shadows of the people on the crowded platform on the textured mineral geyser bed so snapped this and a few others, looking for ideal alignment of the recognizable and abstract.

Treasure Island is an artificial island in the San Francisco Bay built for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. After completion of the exposition, control of the island was passed to the US Navy and it served as a Naval Station from 1942-1997. Now, as with many former military facilities decommissioned in the late 1990’s, it is a leisure area, its history on display in condemned buildings, wide boulevards and attempts at revival.

This image was taken at one of the many docks in Iquitos where boats come and go on their way out into the Amazon river basin surrounding this major city in the middle of the Peruvian jungle. During my week in the area, I saw the rising and falling of the water levels, the results of which are calmly adapted to by those who live on or work near the water edge.

Separate Us from Those

We are at heart so profoundly anarchistic that the only form of state we can imagine living in is Utopian; and so cynical that the only Utopia we can believe in is authoritarian.

Life from birth in the floating shantytown of Belén, consisting of scores of neat rows of huts, built on rafts, which rise and fall with the river, depends on a familiarity with navigating by boat. The Transaction

Every Saturday outside of Khorog and at other locations where a bridge between Afghanistan and Tajikistan exist, Afghans flow across the border into a guarded bazar in order to sell their products. This teen sat on a blanket selling various items from simple electronics to buttons, pausing long enough to look into my lens as I watched him through the viewfinder.
