Incan Ruins

Only 1 left in stock (can be backordered) / Shipping Available

Pachacamac is an active archaeological site 40 kilometres (25 mi) southeast of Lima, Peru in the Valley of the Lurín River. The site was first settled around A.D. 200 and was named after the “Earth Maker” creator god Pacha Kamaq. I visited it on a bus tour of Lima and surrounding area in the final day of my trip to Peru. Sitting where the Incan priests reportedly sat on top of the Temple of the Sun for ceremonies as well as to watch the rising sun, I was awed by the mastery of architecture the builders had over a 1,000 years ago.

Treasure Island is an artificial island in the San Francisco Bay built for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. After completion of the exposition, control of the island was passed to the US Navy and it served as a Naval Station from 1942-1997. Now, as with many former military facilities decommissioned in the late 1990’s, it is a leisure area, its history on display in condemned buildings, wide boulevards and attempts at revival.

We are at heart so profoundly anarchistic that the only form of state we can imagine living in is Utopian; and so cynical that the only Utopia we can believe in is authoritarian.

Life from birth in the floating shantytown of Belén, consisting of scores of neat rows of huts, built on rafts, which rise and fall with the river, depends on a familiarity with navigating by boat. Every Saturday outside of Khorog and at other locations where a bridge between Afghanistan and Tajikistan exist, Afghans flow across the border into a guarded bazar in order to sell their products. This teen sat on a blanket selling various items from simple electronics to buttons, pausing long enough to look into my lens as I watched him through the viewfinder.
